When US President Donald Trump took a trip to North Carolina where it suffered from Hurricane Helene in September, he stated that he would like to get rid of FEMA completely. Trump, in his first visit since taking presidency, showed his displeasure with FEMA in the state for its poor disaster management and said he will ensure action is taken either to eliminate the agency or remake it completely.

“FEMA has been a disaster,” Trump stated while examining the regions hurricane which had surplus damage with roofs off homes and trees laying waste to the ground. He indicated that states should be directly allotted money to facilitate the destruction recovery rather than taking federal aid from FEMA.

FEMA has seen double its budget in recent years as more and more extreme weather causes natural disasters, and their duty of bringing in essential supplies, equipment, and aid increases. Weather setting up over 20,000 employees across 10 regional offices, the agency solely ran under the Biden administration for the last 4 years.
